Celtic Catalysts launches first "STS" DiPAMP Family Ligand Kit

Dublin company, Celtic Catalysts today announced the market launch of its new so-called “STS” Ligand Kit. Having developed and scaled-up synthetic routes to analogues of the famous (and off-patent) DiPAMP ligand, Celtic Catalysts has assembled a toolkit of test quantities of 8 distinct analogs which are available direct from the company.
“The key to our ‘STS’ ligands is the ability to Screen, Tune and Scale the ligands” says Director of Business Development, Brian Kelly. “Using our proprietary P-chiral synthetic pathways we can make DiPAMP or numerous analogs at multi kilogram scale”. DiPAMP itself is a well known asymmetric hydrogenation ligand which has been around for many years.
However, despite the fact that it is off- patent (and therefore attractive for manufacturers to use) it has not gained as prevalent use as other more expensive (on-patent) ligands such as DuPHOS and JosiPHOS. This has been due mainly to the previous difficulty in synthesising ligands of this type and the concomitant lack of “tunability” (i.e. ability to make analogs which better suit the substrate in question). Consequently other more versatile ligand structures such as DuPHOS and JosiPHOS have gained currency.
This is set to change according to Kelly. “One of the biggest factors which has inhibited the use of asymmetric catalysis at an industrial scale is the availability of affordable ligands in multi-kilogram quantities which work with the substrate of interest. Not only in many cases do our analogs give better yields, turnovers and enantioselectivities than DiPAMP, but similarly they surpass other so-called best-in-class ligands like DuPHOS, JosiPHOS and TangPHOS but are available at a fraction of the cost”.
Kelly says that the company plans to launch a new kit of P-chiral ligands every Quarter.
